What Is New In Rev 13.5

Rev 13.5 is a minor release for our newer software. The primary reason for the release is to allow for use of a new compiler version on the PC. There are, however, a few changes of interest. First, the computation of the added inertia force on a #plate has been changed. In the past, the added mass was simply based on the area and the input factors. Now, the program computes an aspect ratio of the submerged portion of the plate and reduces the added mass according to the aspect ratio.

A new command, F_RAO has been added to the structural post-processing menu. This command allows one to directly obtain the response operators of the internal loads in beams and connectors. Also, a new option -LOCAL has been added to the joint structural post-processing command. This option allows one to get displacements reported in the current global system.

Several aspects of diffraction meshes have also been changed. One can now define a panel with more than four vertices, and one can now plot the refined mesh. To accomplish this, the -m_dist and -m_wlf options have been moved from the prcomp command to the &parms command. If these parameters are set and one issues &pltmod mesh -detail, he will get plots of the refined mesh. Also, in the past, the vertex coordinates were input in the body system. To allow for more flexibility in modelling, these values are now input in the part system. In most cases this will change nothing, but for models with more than one part, caution should be used. The real reason for this change is so that one could build a mesh for each part in its natural coordinate system. In the past, one could only input a single MESH for each body. If a new MESH command was encountered, the old results were deleted. This is no longer the case.

Finally, the vortex shedding beam summary has been changed. This command now produces two reports, one for beams out of the water with wind generated vortices, and one for beams in the water with current generated vortices. Additionally, several option have been added. The two options w_velocity and c_velocity allow one to specify the lower limit for velocities which will generate a "check" message. If this command is used with the -brief option, only those beams which have a "check" will be printed.
