What Is New In Rev 12.1

Rev 12.1 is a minor release for our newer software.

Several new options have been added to the &DEVICE command. Here, one can now specify -SC_MONO if he has a monochrome screen, -HC_MONO if he has a monochrome printer, and -PSOURCE to specify the paper source on a PCL printer. A new graphics hard copy device, POSTSCRIPT, has been added.

The definition of the JONSWAP spectrum has been changed so that a JONSWAP spectrum is now a three parameter spectrum instead of a two parameter one. The spectrum previously used is still available by specifying 2JONSWAP, but this is not documented.

When one specified a POINTS command in the process post-processing menu, he now receives the wave elevation and the clearance of each point at each event. This new data is reported with the MOTION report.

With this release, one can now have 60 frequencies specified on either a PRCOMP or an RAO command. Also, the amount of history save has been doubled so that one can use shorter time steps without loosing resolution. Previously, the mass of water trapped in a flooded member was not accounted for, now this is included in the system mass.

The "shape table" is now properly documented, and one can now add shapes to the table for each particular run with a new option in the &DATA menu.

The &PLTMODEL command has been changed. The option -INITIAL has been removed, and now the connectors are plotted for all options except -MESH.

Several new options have been added to the RAO command so that the user has more control over the nonlinear damping its linearization. One can now specify, -CD_TUBE, to define the drag coefficient for tubular members in computing RAOs. The -STEEP option has been changed so that one can now have the response operators linearized for constant steepness up to a given period and have a constant height used for larger periods. The option -ROD_STEEP works in a similar fashion for the linearization of rod elements. Finally, the -VDFACT option now has three factors: one for "roll damping", one for vessel Morrison's' damping, and one for rod damping.

Perhaps the most noticeable change has been with regard to frequency domain post-processing. Reports of the results of a PRCOMP command previously were obtained by the command FREQ_SUM in the &SUMMARY Menu. This command has been deleted from the documentation, but it currently remains. As an alternative, a new command FREQ_SUM has been added to the Frequency Domain Post-Processing Menu. This is simply a macro which will produce basically the same results as before. The primary reason for moving the command, however, was that new commands: MATRICES, EXFORCE, DRIFT, and IRR_EXFOR were added to allow one the option of disposing of the data as he wishes. Also, the IRR_EXFOR allows investigation of the wave exciting force due to a spectrum. Also here, another new command, SPECTRUM was added. This command allows one to look at the variation of the motion transfer functions and the sea spectrum in the same report.
